Cooperative Selling Certified Organic Vegetables, Herbs, Fruits and Nuts:
La Bella Fattoria, Holle Haussener
La Bella Fattoria is a 30- acre family operated farm located in Seneca
County. We are currently using 4 acres to grow certified organic vegetables
and leasing out 9 acres to another certified organic farmer. In 2005 we
will be expanding our operation to include certified organic beef and
chicken.
Birdsfoot Farm, Dulli Tengeler
Birdsfoot Farm is located north of the Adirondack Mountains in the St.
Lawrence Valley. We are an intentional community, established in 1972.
We grow 2-4 acres of organic vegetables and have an alternative elementary
school and a garden intern program. Our specialty is unusual root crops
like celeriac, burdock root and Jerusalem artichokes.
Black Walnut Farm, Jim and Kathy Miller
We are a family run farm in Lyons, NY near Lake Ontario that has been
certified organic for over 15 years. We grow 10-12 acres of produce, mainly
potatoes, winter squash, tomatoes, and peppers. In addition, we grow organic
transplants for other farmers in our certified organic greenhouse.
Clearview Farm, Kurt Forman and Lisa Lagana
Situated on 235 acres among the drumlins of Palmyra, NY, Clearview Farm
grows a variety of organic vegetables as well as field corn, soybeans
and hay. Approximately 140 acres are tillable, with the balance being
in pasture and woods. We also raise Black Angus cattle for the freezer
trade. We began producing certified organic crops in 2004.
CRS Growers, Bob Stull CRS Growers is a 65 acre farm located in
Ithaca, NY, overlooking Cayuga Lake. We raise annuals, perennials and
6-8 acres of certified organic vegetables. We specialize in growing herbs,
heirloom tomatoes, sweet and hot peppers, summer and winter squash and
melons. We have been certified by NOFA since 1986 and sell our produce
through FLO and the Ithaca Farmers Market
Drumlin's End, Sue Rau and Andy Soutar
Drumlin's End is a 200 acre farm in the St. Lawrence Valley, much of which
is in forest and wetland. We grow many unusual potato varieties and winter
squash, and also raise Highland cattle. We have been certified organic
for 15 years.
Foot-'n-the-Furrow Farm, June Book and Dennis Tyler
This "alliterate" little 20-acre farm was established in 2002 by June
Book and Dennis Tyler and was certified organic in 2004. The farm boasts
one of the few organic sweet cherry orchards in NYS. We also grow blueberries
and mulberries, and have put in new plantings of raspberries and strawberries.
We have 3 acres of sandy loam vegetable gardens, 2 acres of pasture and
13 acres of woodlands where wildlife abounds.
Malven Hill Farm, Katy Sweeney
Malven Hill Farm is a small, 90-acre farm located in northern Chenango
County on the sunny side of the hills near Smyrna, NY in a diverse landscape
with equal portions of woods, pasture and tillable land. The land has
been worked organically since 1988, using workhorses to power all the
farm machinery as well as to provide the bulk of the compost used to maintain
soil fertility. In addition to 50 different varieties of certified organic
fruits, vegetables and herbs, we raise pork and beef in small quantities.
The Organic Cornucopia Farm, Modesto Cappelluti
The Cappelluti family owns 70 acres overlooking Seneca Lake, of which
4 acres are in Concord grapes and 6+ in vegetables, herbs, fruit trees
and yellow, black and purple raspberries. We keep a few bee colonies and
are experimenting with fig trees. About half of the land is wooded, with
an acre of sugar maples and 15 acres of pines. The Cappelluti family has
owned the land for 20 years. We moved here from New York City in 1996,
built a house and began farming.
Organic Matters Farm, Jim and Pat Sharpless
Nestled among the rolling drumlins of Wayne County, Organic Matters Farm
is situated halfway between Lake Ontario and Seneca Lake in Lyons, NY.
The 62-acre farm was certified organic in 2001. The vegetable fields comprise
8 acres, with 8-10 acres in pasture. Two 10-acre fields are used for rotation,
while the remainder is wooded. The soils range from sand to loam. In addition
to a wide range of vegetables, we added organic poultry in 2003.
Pedersen Farms, Rick and Laura Pedersen
Pedersen Farms of Seneca Castle, NY is in the heart of the Finger Lakes,
sometimes referred to as the Midwest of the Northeast. My wife Laura and
I, with the help of several key employees, have been producing vegetables
and grains since 1981. We organically grow corn, soybeans, winter squash,
pickling cucumbers, cauliflower and tomatoes for sale to regional markets,
grocery stores, restaurants and roadside markets.
Rose Valley Farm, David Stern
Rose Valley Farm is located on the lake plain of Wayne County, four miles
from Lake Ontario and halfway between Rochester and Syracuse. The farm
is 60 acres of sandy and gravelly loam soils, with 20 acres of managed
woodlands, 1 1/2 acres in perennial crops-- asparagus, rhubarb, blueberries,
and herbs--1 acre in nut production, 10 acres in wildlife/diversity use
and plantings, and the remaining land in pasture, vegetable production
and rotations. David came to Rose Valley in 1973 and has been certified
organic since 1984.
Schoonmaker's Acres, David Schoonmaker Schoonmaker's Acres is
a 160 acre farm
in Tyre, Seneca County. I have 4 acres for certified organic produce and
80 acres for certified organic grain, soy and hay crops. Schoonmaker's
Acres has been in our family for over 150 years and has been organic since
1954.
Siren Farms, David Neilsen
Siren Farms is a 60-acre NOFA-NY certified organic vegetable, herb and
flower farm located 20 miles south of Ithaca. We keep 40 acres in production
using some of the oldest and newest sustainable agriculture practices.
Siren Farms is a family farm and CSA and welcomes visits to our roadside
stand as well as tours of the farm.
Wellspring Farm, Doug Bowne
Wellspring is a 360 acre farm in the Upper Mohawk Valley. We specialize
in growing garlic and mixed vegetables on a few acres and keep 50 meat
goats on marginal land. They are marketed to immigrant groups and increasingly
health-conscious Euro-americans. The rest of the land is meadows, pasture
and forests.
Wigfield Farms, Norman Wigfield
Wigfield Farms has been certified for grain crops since 1999 and began
growing certified organic vegetables as well in 2004. Norm's father moved
to this farm in southeastern Wayne County in 1944. It was a dairy farm
until 1984 and currently has 400-450 acres in organic grain production
for livestock feed and cover crop seed.
Willow Grove Farm, Karen and Ken Leuze
Willow Grove is a 45 acre farm in Marion, Wayne County with approximately
4 acres of upland and 16 acres of muck soils. We grow many root and cold
crops, greens, winter squash, fruits and are starting a nut orchard. We
have three ponds stocked with catfish and perch and in the next year or
two we will have maple syrup. Willow Grove is a family farm which has
been in business for four generations.
